Just an announcement. I've gotten a website: http://www.lcdresource.com/

I'll be sure to put all the information in this thread on an "NEC vs. Samsung" page. If you guys have any suggestions let me know!

Congratulations. It looks like you want to deal with a lot of different subjects - interesting.

A good suggestion is to either keep it as a pure technical site or find a good compromise between a technical site and "practical" site. The last part is what I did but it's hard a takes a lot of work.

I helped Simon with a number of issues some time ago. If you have questions feel free to ask them. First of all be sure to use objective and correct sources for your technical subjects. A lot of crap can be found on the Internet so be sure not just to read the first and easiest. The best method - in my opinion - is to read technical document from panel manufacturers (not LCD monitor manufacturers). Or to know the right people ;)

Thanks for the compliments on the website, all. I'm still working on it though my life has been busier lately.

Is it correct that S-IPS (and AS-IPS, TW-IPS, etc) panels don't have that "0 angle" problem where you can see part of an image slightly off-axis but not while directly in front?

Yes that is an artifact of the VA technology and does not occur on IPS panels. It has to do with the movement and placement of the individual crystals in the panel, where IPS have "perfectly" perpendicular (to your eye sight) crystals in both on and off states. This is not the case for PVA/MVA panels.

I have made some pictures illustrating the alignment of the crystals in our "panelteknologi" section:

Well, I just got a 20WMGX2. ;)

Apparently the NEC 20WMGX2 has issues displaying the first ten or so shades of any color. Depending on the settings it varies from 7 to 16 missing shades (they are indistinguishable). I just found that interesting. This makes it rather unsuitable for any serious photo editing. I suppose gamma adjustment could fix it though. Any other NEC owners noticed that? It also happens for the last ~5 or so tones of white.
