I'm struggling to find any info about the LCD panel type that the 17" version of the Imac uses. Can somebody enlighten me? Thanks.

Judging from these images, I'm afraid it comes with a TN... :((

judging by the spec listed on Apple's site for the Imac 17":
Display

* Built-in 17-inch (viewable) widescreen or 20-inch (viewable) widescreen TFT active-matrix liquid crystal display
* Millions of colors at all resolutions
* Typical viewing angle:
o 17-inch model
+ 140° horizontal
+ 120° vertical
o 20-inch model
+ 170° horizontal
+ 170° vertical
* Typical brightness: 250 cd/m (17-inch model); 280 cd/m (20-inch model)
* Typical contrast ratio: 500:1 (17-inch model); 800:1 (20-inch model)
iw dould certainly suggest a TN Film panel for the 17" model with those viewing angles and contrast ratio

I would agree. The vertical angles in perticular suggests that it is a TN display.

It's a TN, with no doubt. Some weeks ago I went to a store and looked at the 17" version from behind and it showed the usual TN "color distortion".
But the more interesting thing is, it seems that it's a notebook screen. As far as I know, 17" panels with a 1440x900 resolution (like the one of the iMac) are made specifically for notebooks.
