LG har afsløret de første detaljer om sine 2018 OLED-tv. C8, E8 og W8 får en ny og avanceret A9 ”Alpha” processor samt understøttelse af High Frame Rate – mere flydende video.

LGs portefølje af 2018 OLED-tv bygger videre på sidste års program ved at tilføje ThinQ der udvider smart-funktionaliteten, en ny A9 videoprocessor samt understøttelse af billedfrekvens på op til 120 billeder per sekund, også kaldet HFR eller High Frame Rate.

- “LG is continually seeking to innovate in home entertainment and LG ThinQ along with the α (Alpha) 9 processor will deliver a TV viewing experience that is unrivaled in the industry,” sagde Brian Kwon, chef for LG Home Entertainment. “At LG, our interest is in improving user lifestyles and convenience, which our 2018 TVs amply deliver.”



Den nye α (Alpha) 9 videoprocessor er indbygget i C8, E8 og W8 serierne. B-serien – i år B8 – får en mindre kraftfuld processor, som har visse begrænsninger, hvad angår HFR, ifølge tekniske detaljer tilføjet af CNET.

- ”Et centralt element i α (Alpha) 9 er en 4-trins proces med støjreduktion, hvilket er dobbelt så mange trin som i konventionelle teknikker. Algoritmen giver mulighed for større finesse i støjreduktionen og klare billeder, der ikke påvirkes af distraherende genstande.,” forklarer LG.

B8 lanceres i 55 og 65 tommer, hvorimod C8 udvides til at indeholde en 77 tommer model, foruden 55 og 65 tommer. E8 vil kunne købes i 55 og 65 tommer. Endelig vil W8 ”wallpaper” OLED findes i 65 og 77 tommer.


HFR, HDR og Dolby Atmos
Med understøttelse af High Frame Rate bliver LG 2018 OLED i stand til at håndtere video i billedfrekvenser på op til 120fps. Skærmene bliver de første, som kan håndtere HFR, hvilket forventes at blive en stor tendens i de kommende år. I dag findes der meget lidt indhold, som er skudt og gjort tilgængeligt i billedfrekvenser på over 60fps.

LG tilføjer, at 2018 OLED vil byde på ’4K Cinema HDR’, der dækker over understøttelse af fire HDR-formater: Dolby Vision, HDR10, HLG og Advanced HDR by Technicolor. De første tre understøttes allerede på sidste års modeller og det fjerde tilføjes via en firmware-opdatering.

- ”At levere et fremragende billede kræver mere end blot dynamiske metadata. Det kræver et økosystem af farvegraderingsværktøjer, det rette indhold, distributionsteknologi og intelligente skærmkortlægningsmotorer. Dolby Vision tilbyder en end-to-end-løsning og findes på alle LG OLED- og SUPER UHD-fjernsyn. LG’s unikke afkodingsproces analyser billeder dynamisk for at sikre den højeste billedkvalitet, mens Dolby Atmos’ objektbaserede surround sound leverer den bedst mulige audiovisuelle oplevelse.”

Ligesom sidste års modeller vil de nye modeller kunne håndtere Dolby Atmos, der er Dolbys objekt-baserede lydteknologi.



ThinQ smart-funktionalitet
Det koreanske selskab siger, at de agter at forbedre tv-oplevelsen vha. et AI-baseret system, som har fået navnet ThinQ. En af de fremhævede funktioner er stemmegenkendelse, som hjælper brugeren med at styre tv’et og finde nyt indhold.

- “Med AI-funktionaliteten i de nye fjernsyn kan LG-kunder tale direkte til fjernbetjeningen for at bruge alle de praktiske funktioner, som en avanceret voice assistent-teknologi kan tilbyde. Et LG ThinQ-fjernsyn fungerer også som hub for dit intelligente hjem og giver adgang til andre smarte enheder såsom robotstøvsugere, klimaanlæg, luftrensere, intelligente pærer, højttalere og mange andre enheder, der kan oprette forbindelse til tv'et via Wi-Fi eller Bluetooth,” forklarer LG.

Det nævnes ikke i pressematerialet, men et af pressebillederne afslører, at stemmesystemet er baseret på Google Assistant. LG forklarer, at brugeren kan bede systemet om bl.a. “show me yoga videos” eller “show me all the movies this actor has starred in”. Man kan også styre tv’et via kommandoer såsom “turn off the TV when this program is over”.

 LG’s newest α (Alpha) 9 intelligent processor provides true-to-life images with incredibly rich colors, sharpness and depth for more realism. A core innovative element of the α (Alpha) 9 is the four-step process of noise reduction, which boasts twice as many steps compared to conventional techniques. This algorithm allows for greater finesse in noise reduction, improving the clarity of images affected by distracting artifacts and enabling more effective rendering of smooth gradations.

The processor also improves color performance, thanks to the advanced mapping capabilities make colors look closer than ever to the original content. The improved color correction algorithm allows for more natural colors by expanding the reference color coordinates seven-fold compared to before. α (Alpha) 9 is designed to support high frame rate (HFR) for producing smoother and clearer motion images at 120 frames per second for better rendering of fast-action content such as sports and action movies. As a result of the new image processor, 2018 LG OLED TVs can display any content at maximum quality for a truly spectacular viewing experience.
4K Cinema HDR
2018 OLED and SUPER UHD TVs from LG feature 4K Cinema HDR, which introduces a truly cinematic experience to the home, regardless of the format. LG’s 2018 OLED and SUPER UHD TVs add support for Advanced HDR by Technicolor, building on a legacy of supporting most major HDR formats, from the superior viewing experience of Dolby VisionTM to HDR10 and HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma). LG’s 2018 OLED and SUPER UHD TVs process HDR images dynamically frame by frame using LG’s proprietary algorithm, Enhanced Dynamic Tone mapping. Both 2018 OLED TVs and SUPER UHD TVs come with Dolby Atmos object-based surround sound for the best audio-visual experience possible.
ThinQ
With AI functionality embedded in their TVs, LG customers can speak directly into the remote control to enjoy all the convenient features of today’s advanced voice assistant technology. LG’s ThinQ TVs also function as smart home hubs, offering access to other smart home products such as robotic vacuum cleaners, air conditioners, air purifiers, smart lights, smart speakers and many other devices that can connect to the TV via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.

LG’s ThinQ offers an enhanced interactive experience in the company’s newest smart TV lineup, including OLED and SUPER UHD TV models by employing Natural Language Processing (NLP) to deliver intelligent voice-activated control and connectivity based on LG’s own deep learning technology, DeepThinQ. With a dramatically streamlined setup process, viewers can easily and quickly connect to gaming consoles and external soundbars. Users can search for information, images or videos featuring specific content by making a verbal request through the TV’s remote control such as “show me all the movies this actor has starred in” or “show me yoga videos”.

LG TVs with ThinQ AI supports services based on Electronic Program Guide (EPG) to deliver information in real time or change to a channel that offers the content requested. Instruct the TV to “search for the soundtrack of this movie” or “turn off the TV when this program is over” without repeating the name of the program or entering a specific time.
