Update on the white noise/hissing coming from the internal speakers of my 55B6:
Well, to be honest there is no update. I contacted LG Norway in November last year, but they were not very helpful. I subsequently contacted LG UK and LG USA in early December, and since then I have checked in with them more or less every week. I've provided quotes from and links to various other B6 owners on this forum who are experiencing the same problem. I also volunteered to try a pre-October firmware to check whether the issue is software-related.
I have tried everything I can think of, including a factory reset, changing all kinds of audio settings, unplugging various cables, disconnecting the power cord for a few hours etc. The only thing that sometimes helps is turning the TV off and on multiple times. Also note that once in a while the noise is not present when turning on the TV for the first time after a long break. These facts prove that the TV is capable of working normally at times.
If the noise/hiss is due to faulty hardware then it's not only affecting a few units from a small batch. The noise issue has been proved to affect July and August 2016 builds as well as September and November 2016 builds.
User pablod, who had two B6 sets, said that his July build was fine until he updated to software version 04.30.50. User Pedro Rodrigues had a visit from an LG technician who replaced the main board on this August build, but the noise came back after a software update. This points to a software issue, but I'm not claiming that this is a fact. If other B6 sets are dead silent at all times, it can't be solely due to buggy software.
LG only provides standard replies and apologizes "for any trouble this may have caused". This morning I sent what will probably be my last email. My (extended) return deadline is the 20th of January. I would really like to keep this TV, and I have no idea how I'm going to transport the TV back to the shop (I don't have a car nor any friends who can help out next week). However, the noise is unbearable so I have no choice but to find a way to take it back. Not sure if I will try another 55B6, as a few other people (incl. a friend of a friend of mine) have reported the same issue on their second set. Besides, without a car and an extra pair of hands the transport/unboxing/setup process (and the possible return process if the new set has the same problem) is infeasible.
